In short: the game has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. It doesn't collect your name, email or anything else about you. Your games are saved on your own device. Playing together passes game messages between players and keeps nothing once the room closes. Error reports are sent only if you agree.
Playing on your own
Your saved games, settings and which lessons you've seen are kept in your browser's storage on your device. They are never sent anywhere. Clearing the site's data in your browser deletes them. Export in Settings saves a copy to a file you keep; the game never sees where you put it.
Where the game comes from
The game is served by Cloudflare. Like any website, Cloudflare receives the usual details of each request (such as your IP address and browser) to deliver the page. See Cloudflare's privacy policy. Everything the game needs, its fonts included, comes from there; it loads nothing from other companies.
Playing together
Co-op games connect through a relay that runs on Cloudflare. While you're in a room, the relay passes the game's messages (your commands, and copies of the game world) between the players in it. It doesn't read or keep them. While a room is open, it keeps the host's secret key, the game version and the room's password in hashed form, so the host can reconnect; these are deleted when the room closes. Cloudflare handles your IP address to provide the connection. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Players appear as "Player 2", "Player 3" and so on: there are no names.
- Room passwords are hashed in your browser before they're sent. Your browser remembers the passwords you type, and a key for each room you made on the server, so you don't have to type them again.
- Anyone can see an open room's status: how many players are in it, its game's day and season, and its name.
The dedicated server
The always-on server is run by the game's developer. It saves the world of each of its rooms (buildings, research, engineers by player number), and keeps a log of when players come and go, by player number. It connects to the relay like a player does, so it never sees players' IP addresses. A room nobody plays in for a month is archived on the server.
Feedback
The feedback form in the game sends nothing by itself. It starts an email to hello@box47games.com in your own email app, for you to send, or gives you the text to copy. If you leave the diagnostics in, they include the game version, your browser and screen size, the frame rate, recent errors and a summary of your game. We use what you send only to answer you and to improve the game.
Error reports
The first time the game hits an error, it asks whether it may send error reports. Only if you say yes, and only from then on, it sends each kind of error once a visit (a few at most) to the game's own relay on Cloudflare. A report holds the error message and where in the game's code it happened, the game version, your browser and screen size, and whether you were on the main menu or how many minutes into a game. Never your save, your room or anything about you. The relay keeps the latest report of each kind (300 kinds at most, older ones are deleted), where only the developer can read them. You can stop the reports in Settings → Error reports at any time.
Supporting the game
If you choose to tip the developer, that happens on Ko-fi's website and follows Ko-fi's privacy policy. The game itself gets nothing from it.
Children
The game collects no personal information from anyone, children included.
